Assistant Instructor

If you like people, have a passion for diving and want an extraordinary life – become an instructor. Teaching to scuba allows you to share your love of the aquatic kingdom with others while doing what you enjoy – being in and under the water. Open Water Scuba Instructors and Assistant Instructors are the most sought-after dive professionals in the world because they have completed a program that sets the standards for dive training professionals. You earn your instructor qualification through hard work and commitment, and you are rewarded with an occupation that allows you to share incredible underwater adventures with others – transforming their lives for the better and enriching yours.

Are you ready to join the community of professionals dedicated to teaching the most popular and progressive scuba training programs in the world?

The Instructor Development Course (IDC) consists of two parts – the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. Most dive professionals complete the entire IDC and then attend an Instructor Examination (IE), which is the final step in becoming Instructor certified.

Successful completion of just one AI course earns you the qualification of Assistant Instructor. When an AI is ready to progress, attending an OWSI program allows you to participate in an IE to earn the full Instructor level. Dive professionals who hold an instructor level from another dive training organization may be eligible to enroll directly in the OWSI program. This acknowledges previous instructor training and sets you on the path to becoming an instructor.

A Divemaster who has been a certified diver for six months can enroll in the Instructor Development course. You also need to:
* Have at least 60 logged dives and 100 dives to attend an IE.
* First aid training (CPR and First Aid) within the last 24 months.
* A certificate signed by a doctor within the last 12 months.
You also need to be a first aid instructor, but you can earn this level during your instructor training.

In a minimum of five days, but normally seven, the IDC teaches you how to teach all the fundamental courses. You will be able to organize and present information, deliver knowledge development sessions and control open water dives. Basically, you will become a better public speaker and you will be really good at demonstrating skills while looking at the safety of student divers. Key topics include:
* Standards and Procedures of the courses you will teach with in-water workshops
* Learning, Instruction and the System
* Risk Management and Diver Safety
* The Business of Diving and your role as an instructor
* Dive Marketing and Consulting in sales
